Ruth Minnie Terbeek Mennell, age 89, of Chatham passed away on April 20, 2017 at Burbank Parke Care Center. She was born April 9, 1928 at Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland, OH. After graduating from West High, Ruth pursued a nursing career, graduating from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing as a RN in 1950 and Hiram College with a BSN in 1954. Returning to Cleveland, she worked at Lutheran Hospital in the delivery room. Ruth met Williard Eugene Mennell at a square dance in August of 1954 and married him on December 18th of that same year. The newlyweds moved to Chatham, OH, and occupied the W. Smith Road house they would live in all their married lives. They welcomed their first son (Gary Eugene, m. Terry) in November of 1955, then continued to grow their family with the birth of a daughter (Janet Ruth, m. John Murphey) in 1957 and three additional sons in 1960 (Roy Lewis), 1961 (Dale Allen), and 1962 (Jeffrey Keith, m. Kathy). An additional daughter (Carol Sue) died in childbirth in 1958. Ruth attended Chatham Federated Church. She was on the Administrative Board, played piano and organ, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. She is remembered as a 4-H advisor, a volunteer with the Dairy Boosters, and for her work as a member of the Farm Bureau. She is preceded in death by her parents Minnie Hendrenda Barge Terbeek and Roy Nyland Terbeek, her husband, brothers Allen Roy Terbeek and Warren George Terbeek, daughter Carol Sue, and two grandchildren (Jeremy and Matthew Mennell). Ruth is survived by her seven grandchildren, (Mark, m. Kristine), (Daniel, m. Vicki), (Timothy m. Tiffany), (Rebecca m. Todd Englehart), (Nathan m. Emily), (Sarah), and (Bradley), and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 25, at 11:00 AM at the Parker Funeral Home. 210 Medina St., Lodi (330-948-1122).
Pastor Patty Humpress will officiate.
Burial will follow at Chatham Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
